What is this blog for?

August 11th, 2005

This all started a while ago when I was feeling very restless at work. But I couldn’t figure out what was going on. It kept coming around to “I don’t want to be here” and then the inevitable question “Why not?”. Why indeed.

I’ve always known this wasn’t my intended life’s work because no higher power would make me work in this field for the rest of my life. I don’t like it. But I’m reasonably good at it and my boss seems to like me so I work here, at least until I can finish my degree. Combine all this “life’s work” soul searching with the books I had just finished reading (Your Money or Your Life and all three Tightwad Gazettes) and something is going to happen. These books are rife with the themes of environmental responsibility, thrift, and the alignment of spending with values, all for the express purpose of living what I call a “right” life.

A “right” life. Of course this is a loaded phrase because what is right for me may not be right for anyone else. This journey I’m on is about discovering what is “right” for me and molding my life to fit that template. Jubilant existence here I come.

So what does all this right living have to do with a Feeding Frenzy. Truthfully, this blog began as a leisurely read for people, like me, who like food. But after a brief Google search for “food blog” which returned 15,500,000 results, it occurred to me maybe the world doesn’t need another food blog — duh! But my recent re-enthusiasm for food was actually spurred by my search for right living. I was trying to eat healthier for less money but it was just a small part of what was happening to me. And I really like the title. So there you go.
